Custodial Services provides basic cleaning and minor maintenance services to classroom and administrative buildings.
Custodial Staff Shifts
- 5:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. (Monday-Friday)
- 3:00 p.m. - 11:30 p.m. (Monday-Friday)
Typical Tasks Include
- sweeping, mopping and vacuuming floors and stairs
- scrubbing and disinfecting toilets, urinals and lavatories
- cleaning, polishing and/or disinfecting entrance glass, drinking fountains, mirrors, common phones and elevators
- pulling trash and recycling paper
- replacing used light bulbs and maintaining exit lights
Entrance areas, common areas (hallways, stairwells, student lounges, lobbies), rest rooms, Child Development Center, and similar areas are cleaned daily (Monday - Friday).
As a general rule of thumb, the most frequent attention is paid the areas closest to the front door(s) and less frequent service is given to areas furthest inside the building.
Twice Weekly Cleaning
Classrooms and departmental offices are cleaned thoroughly twice weekly and policed on alternate days. The difference in care is generally the level of attention given the floors.
Individual faculty and staff offices are cleaned once every month throughout the year and more often as seasonal work activities, staff availability and inclement weather permit.
High traffic common areas are addressed on a quarterly basis as breaks in the academic calendar permit.
Intense floor care work, shampooing for carpeted areas and stripping/refinishing for hard surfaces, is generally performed annually between May and August.
Regular custodial service is provided Monday through Friday. Departments or individuals scheduling programs or functions, other than normal scheduled classes, Saturday or Sunday need to make special arrangements for custodial service. These events will be scheduled on an overtime basis and departments or individuals will need to provide a valid University account number for the charges.
Submit a Service Request through FAMIS to schedule special event custodial service.
