Mail Center

Vendor for outgoing mail metering

The UNI Mail Center uses Leverage Digital Imaging (LDI) in Cedar Falls to process outgoing mail.

Please ensure outgoing mail is ready to be processed by:

  • Having a printed (not hand-written) address on the outgoing mail.
  • Folding all flaps down (does not need to be sealed, just folded down) on standard envelopes
  • Occasionally, an envelope is damaged during processing in the metering equipment.  If you use envelopes with a pre-printed return address, please send us a small supply (around 20) of your envelopes so LDI may address and mail the item without returning to you should the need arise.  LDI is HIPAA certified and guarantees confidentiality of any item inadvertently opened.

Mail with a hand-written address and flaps not folded down will still be processed, but is not preferred.

Please direct questions to Jeff Van Gelder (jeff.vangelder@uni.edu) or 319-273-2451).

Mail Center Overview

The UNI Mail Center picks up and delivers outgoing, incoming, and interdepartmental campus mail and packages related to the official business of the University. This includes office products and cleaning supplies.

University and State of Iowa regulations do not allow the UNI Mail Center to distribute personal mail or packages, including FedEx and UPS. Do not use your University address to receive items of a personal or private business nature. Under no circumstances will the UNI Mail Center be responsible for any delay or damage to material not meeting the official business criteria.

The UNI Mail Center is open 7:30 am to 4:00 pm Monday through Friday.

Mail Center Procedures

The Mail Center operates under the direction of Facilities Management.  The UNI Mail Center is responsible for on-campus collection and distribution of U.S., foreign and interdepartmental mail and packages.

Services provided by the Mail Center are generally available without charge (except for postage) to departments, offices and recognized student and staff organizations.  Postage meter charges must be billed to an institutional account.  Recognized organizations without institutional accounts may utilize only interdepartmental mail services.

Official business materials are those dealing with an aspect of the university’s operation which can be defined as being directly related to the instructional, administrative, research, or community service programs or activities of the institution as differentiated from private or personal mail.  Mail Center distribution services, according to the Board of Regents, State of Iowa, and State and Federal rules and regulations, are not to be used for the private business or personal mail of university employees, nor are Mail Center equipment and distribution facilities to be available for fund raising unrelated to the university or the dissemination of statements on behalf of political campaigns or candidates.

Each department or unit of the university is responsible for insuring materials to be distributed by Mail Center relate to official business of the university, though Mail Center shall be the final arbiter.  Materials found to be in violation of this policy will be removed immediately and affected faculty or staff members so advised.

Mail Center Unable to Deliver to Locked Offices

In an ongoing review of campus security and building/office access it was determined Mail Center staff will no longer enter locked offices to deliver mail or packages.    As a result, if your office is not open during regular mail delivery hours (typically 8:00am to 3:30pm), alternate arrangements will need to be made for delivery.

If you are affected by this, please contact Trista Wolff or Jeff Van Gelder to discuss a long term resolution.  This could include delivering mail to an alternate location in a building, utilizing a locking mailbox, or simply having the mail held for pickup.
